FREIGHT AND LOGISTICS

OVERVIEW

VISION

To be the most innovative provider of supply chain solution excellence in partnership with our clients

Unitrans Freight and Logistics provides specialised transport, distribution, warehousing, logistics and supply chain re-engineering services to the mining, manufacturing, industrial and allied sectors of the economy.  The traditional freight services have been augmented by the provision of a full range of supply chain services to existing and new customers within the South African market.  In addition, comprehensive freight forwarding and clearing services are offered by the division.

Unitrans Freight and Logistics comprises seven Strategic Business Units (SBUs), which allows each unit to be closely aligned with its customers’ businesses, providing specialised competencies to each sector.

Specialised Business Units

Industry Focus

  • Mining Services
Customers are mainly high profile companies within the mining industry.
  • Industrial
Customers come from the construction, steel and engineering market sectors.
  • Specialised Freight
Customers are mainly from the Steel Industry where specialised packaging and distribution are requirements; animal feed and associated industries - high end equipment requirements; lubricant market - focused hazchem needs and line haul solutions where service requirements are at premium levels.

Product Focus

  • Warehousing and Distribution
Customers are from diverse industry backgrounds and are involved in the specialised field of warehousing and distribution of specific products.
  • Buffalo Freight
A freight forwarding business across all industries.

Client Focus

  • RVE
This is a dedicated business unit looking after the Rainbow group of companies.

REGIONAL Focus

  • Global Warehouse and Logistics
Global Warehouse and Logistics provides services to the European furniture and household goods market. Managed by the Freight and Logistics team, the company controls the movement of goods on behalf of many customers from source (mostly from China) through to retail store.

This split in industry and product focus addresses the fact that the provision of warehousing and distribution and less-than truckload break bulk services require specialist skills, approaches and tools that are not industry specific but are rather focused around the supply of specific services within focused niches of the supply chain.

Fundamental Strategy

Our fundamental strategy is to integrate supply chains, thereby enhancing efficiencies and simultaneously improving cost-effectiveness.  We achieve this through:
  • Developing an implicit understanding of the customer’s requirements
  • Crafting the optimum logistical solution for the project
  • Demonstrating operational excellence in the execution of the task
